For Publishers
I’m a fully qualified proofreader (with a Distinction in the advanced CIEP ‘Proofreading 3’ course) and a former fellow at Cambridge University.
I work mainly on non-fiction texts, usually in the fields of art and history (in line with my academic expertise). However, I’m flexible as well as being a specialist, so I’m happy working across the humanities and on non-technical texts in the social and natural sciences. I can also proofread fiction.
I take care to understand the particular objectives of each individual project. If it’s a strict proofread you need, I’ll agree the brief and follow it to the letter. If it’s a more fluid project, needing some form of proof-edit, we can discuss the level of intervention required. As well as being meticulous, I’m sensitive to the aesthetic character of projects, whether they’re design-led or text-led, and take pride in ensuring they look right.
I’m a good communicator and well aware of the various needs of the client/editor, author and typesetter. As a writer myself, I’m particularly attuned to the concerns of authors, which often have to be met diplomatically. My focus, though, is always on the needs of the client.
If time is limited, I can offer a quick turnaround.
